BEFORE SUBMITTING QUESTIONS PLEASE REVIEW SOME OF OUR FAQ's...
Are WN School's certified or licensed programs?
Williamsburg Northside Preschool (WNP) and Williamsburg Northside School (WNS) and Infant & Toddler Center (ITC) are privately owned and operated nursery and preschool. WNP is licensed by the Department of Health (DOH) and is frequently inspected by them; there are annual inspections and random “surprise” inspections. The DOH assesses the physical space, reviews student’s files and the staff files to verify that everyone is up to date with immunizations, and to document the educational certification of staff members. WNP is also a NYC Department of Education (DOE) Universal Pre-Kindergarten contracted site and a DOE Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) satellite site.
Are teachers certified or licensed?
The Head Teachers and Co-Teachers are all certified by the NYC DOH, meeting State requirements. The Preschool Teachers are all licensed by the NY State Education Department. In addition to past certification, licensing and educational training, the staff at WNP participates in three Professional Development trainings per school year and weekly on-site training with our Pedagogista and Director. Additionally, our staff participates in workshops offered by Child Care Inc, NYC’s Department of Health, and the Department of Education.
How do we handle behavioral issues?
Our program uses only positive discipline approaches. The staff will display warm and accepting behavior toward all children with a significant focus on positive reinforcement. Please note that each child’s parent/s will be informed of any remarkable or repeated misbehavior. A team approach including the teacher, the parent(s) and the director might be encouraged or recommended to deal with repetitive problem behaviors and family meetings are held as needed to give parents additional support.
Is testing required for admission into the program?
Students are not required to undergo testing for enrollment at WNP. Throughout the school year we will complete student assessments and give that information to parents at parent/teacher conferences (held twice a year). WNP embraces children of all abilities and backgrounds; it is essential that our community at school represent the community at large. We reinforce the concept that we are all capable of learning from one another.
Who provides meals?
WNP, WNS and ITC teachers provide nutritious snacks daily, ordered from a neighborhood grocery store. Lunch will come from home. Classes are equipped with refrigerators so that lunch bags can be stored in the classroom. All classrooms are equipped with microwaves so that lunch can be heated as needed.
